Meet the Doula
So glad you’re here!
My name is Marlee and I’m a Christian wife, momma, and birth doula.
I support women through pregnancy and birth to help them experience the beauty and power of birth without the trauma and fear.
Nothing brings me more joy than a positive birth story, and I’d love to be a part of yours.

FAQ
What is a Doula?
While there are different types of doulas, I am a Birth Doula. As a Birth Doula, I provide emotional, spiritual, and physical support during labor and delivery. To ensure I can offer optimal and personalized support, I meet with clients to plan and prepare for birth during their pregnancy. I explain more about what a Birth Doula does here. My specific services can be found here.
What areas do you serve?
I am currently accepting in-person Birth Doula clients within an hour of Black River Falls, WI. I may attend births outside this range depending on the circumstances. For example, if you have historically had precipitous (fast) labor, I’d be hesitant to commit to being your in-person doula. However, I also offer virtual Birth Doula services which are not location-dependent.
Should I get a Doula if I plan on having an elective C-section?
Absolutely! Cesarian sections are no joke. On top of the major life experience of having a baby, you’re undergoing major surgery. During a c-section, doulas serve in the same emotional and spiritual support capacity as in a normal birth. We also assist with breastfeeding, supporting the support person, and postpartum recovery.
I want to hire a Doula but I’m afraid it will be awkward having anyone other than my spouse in the delivery room.
This is a totally understandable concern. When I gave birth to my son I was worried about this too. Now as a trained Birth Doula, I realize that birth is a totally normal but completely sacred experience. As your Birth Doula, we will discuss your specific concerns. The most important part of my job is advocating for your wishes and supporting your bodily autonomy. Women that have a Doula at their birth are able to relax and trust that their wishes are being respected when they’re at their most vulnerable state. If you wat to have a conversation about this topic, please schedule a consultation or send me an email.
Can I hire you before I’m pregnant?
While I’d love to have a conversation with you before you’re pregnant, I don’t accept clients without an estimated due date. This is to avoid scheduling conflicts. I appreciate your understanding!
Do you accept all forms of payment?
Yes! Cash, check, and all major cards are accepted. Payment plans are also available.
Why should I hire a Doula?
Hiring a Birth Doula has shown to increase positive birth outcomes.
- decrease in maternal and fetal mortality rates
- improved maternal mental health postpartum
- increase in breastfeeding, which leads to improved infant health
- more birth education during pregnancy
- significantly decreased likelihood of unwanted birth inerventions
These outcomes are a result of the support, education, and advocacy provided by Birth Doulas.
Do you serve all communities (cultures, LGBTQ, religions, etc)?
When a women reaches out to me, we both have to feel like we’re a good fit otherwise I will not accept her as a client. I do not exclude any communities, and will serve anyone that agrees with the three tenants of my Doula practice: women should birth and mother according to their values, mothers are responsible for their baby and their body, and that God perfectly designed us to be mothers. If a pregnant woman doesn’t agree with these tenants, there’s probably a better Doula out there for them. I’m happy to provide referrals for alternate Doula’s if that’s the case.
How do I know if we’re a good fit?
If you’re just finding me, I suggest reading my Doula Services page. I outline my values and approach to birth. If you share those values, the next step is to schedule a consultation, which you can do at the bottom of my Doula Services page. By the end of the consultation, you’ll have the clarity you need to decide if we’re a good fit.
Should I get a Doula if I plan on having an epidural?
Absolutely! Women often opt for an epidural because they don’t want to feel pain. An unfortunate side effect of epidurals is that most women can’t feel or move their lower body in order to do the necessary position changes throughout labor. Birth Doulas help with the physical position changes when a women is unable. We also assist with breastfeeding, which can be more difficult due to the swelling associated with epidurals and IV fluid. Don’t discount that just because it’s potentially less painful with an epidural, you’re still having a baby! Emotional support through this process is just as important for women who choose epidurals vs. women who choose a medication-free birth.
Can I hire you if I’m planning a hospital birth?
Yes, I support women giving birth in all different environments- home birth, birth center, hospital, etc. In fact, advocating for women in a medical setting is something I’m very passionate about.
What do your services include?
I have a base package which includes two (90-minute) prenatal meetings, I attend your birth, and one (4-hour) postpartum visit. This package is fully customizable to your needs. Need more prenatal appointments? No problem. Need an extra postpartum visit? Perfect, we’ll add it on. For more information on my services, see my Doula Services page.
